Formed in Budapest and active since 2019, Rivers Ablaze have steadily built a reputation as one of the most uncompromising and forward-thinking acts in the Eastern European extreme metal scene. With their fifth album Inexternal Dread, the band delivers their most complete and sharply focused work to date.
The album embraces a progressive approach rooted in evolution rather than abstraction. Songs often strike immediately with melodic black metal ferocity and death-driven brutality, only to shift unexpectedly into darker, slower or more introspective phases.
Black metal and death metal form the backbone of the record, reinforced by doom-infused passages and a distinctive vocal delivery that occasionally brushes against grunge-like textures, filtered through a stark, noir atmosphere.
Inexternal Dread is a record built on tension and release: moments of overwhelming force give way to fractured introspection, with carefully placed notes and shifts that land exactly where they need to.
A defining element of Rivers Ablaze is their internationally recognized line-up, which includes Tadeusz Rieckmann, drummer of Faroese Viking metal institution TÝR, whose powerful yet controlled approach adds a distinctive edge to the band’s sound.
