Pennsylvania's Iron Gavel has been slowly fine-tuning its heavy, destructive noise.

pushes low end frequencies to the limit with heavy noise champions Iron Gavel
maintaining the balance.

Currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, Black Tar Prophet, an instrumental/sludge band that pushes low end frequencies to the limit,
was founded by Greg Swinehart in 2011. The band self-released its debut albu m, Note To Nod, in mid-2012, and ended the year by
collaborating with Atlanta's Crawl for a split. In 2013, while continuing to tour, Black Tar Prophet signed with Domestic Genocide
Records to release its s econd LP, Deafen, in 2014. The band's most recent work can be seen in the four tracks contributed to its split
with Iron Gavel.
Iron Gavel is a heavy noise band formed in a basement in April 2008 during the existential upheavals of Dan Martin and Ryan Advent.
Dan, retreating from society and the music scene into the life of a complete hermit, and Ryan, looking to forge a new path for himself,
decided to create a nameless musical project to play in the forests around northwestern Pennsylvania's Rocky Grove. The band's
moniker came from a mutual love of heavy 70's bands (and a penchant for "heavy/light" names - Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Black
Sabbath). The band chose two words that would create a "heavy/heavy" name instead, with particular homage to the Butterfly - Iron
Gavel ("what’s heavier than the slam of a judge's gavel?"). The name seemed to galvanize the band, as the music became louder and
tuned lower, utilizing Ryan's now busted-up drums and Dan's dual solid state amps cranked to the max until Iron Gavel as it is currently
known came to be.
