At long last...the return of OLDEST, the NYC duo of Mick Barr & Brooks Headley, in the form of a split 12" with one of their greatest inspirations, the legendary BASTARD NOISE.
OLDEST manage to combine the avant metal execution that Barr has pioneered in projects like Krallice, Orthrelm, Crom-Tech, and Ocrilim, to name but a few, with the contrarian hardcore approach of Headley's past bands, which include Born Against, Universal Order of Armageddon, Skull Kontrol, and Wrangler Brutes.
BASTARD NOISE need no introduction, as the long running vehicle for Eric Wood's extreme electronics exploration, active since the early 90s and originally serving as a more experimental sister band to his groundbreaking hardcore outfit Man Is the Bastard aka Charred Remains. Having established powerviolence as perhaps the most potent strain of hardcore in his past work with MITB, Crossed Out, and Neanderthal, it comes as no surprise that Wood continues to compose the most uncompromising extreme music being made today. Whether operating in isolation or in collaboration(co-conspirators have included Amps For Christ, Masami Akita, John Wiese, Keiji Haino, and Unglee Izi), the power and integrity of Bastard Noise remain undiluted, with a legion of "skull servants" worldwide, sharing the urgency of the message and welcoming the brutality of the sonics.
We've been eagerly awaiting (and if we're honest, badgering for) more from OLDEST since their full-length released here on SGG in 2012. Rare live appearances and a 7" tucked into a cookbook(Brooks is, after all, the culinary mind behind NYC's vegetarian mecca, Superiority Burger) were met with enthusiasm, but we craved more, and this record more than delivers. Included here is all the material from the band's "Bacterial Insight" sessions(previously unreleased physically) and a track from the aforementioned "We're Italians, Too" single. Appropriately, a vinyl-only bonus track, a raw, rehearsal room cover of Man Is the Bastard's "Combat Weed" closes the Oldest side of the proceedings.
BASTARD NOISE usher in a new era of unmatched, even by "skull" standards, dedication to a singular creative vision with the side-long "Intermittent Burial Grounds Of Retention". A plea - no, a demand - for a better world, an assault on mankind's complacency delivered by eradicating electronics and soul crushing vocals, delivered by both Wood and formidable recent skull initiate, Jessika Marvin. The impending colony collapse we face as a species is reflected in the "honeycomb" effect used in the yellow and black vinyl.
