They incant mythological folktales of celestial glory and supernatural dread. Their songs are sung in Pre-Columbian Central and South American languages, including Nahuatl, Maya, Purepecha and Quechua. And much of their music was written at ancient ceremonial sites, in rituals and meditations, in communion with the spirits that rest there. There is an inherent sense of storytelling, of the peoples of the jungle and the earth living through this music.\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\r\nXochimoki self-released two cassettes, soundtracked the Albuquerque Museum’s touring exhibition MAYA: Treasures of an Ancient Civilization, and created several discs’ worth of further soundtrack music elsewhere before moving on to new and individual projects. They played a crazy, super-long set and almost everyone had left as it was past 2 am, but of the 10 or 12 people still there, Gerard Cosloy from Matador [Records] had stayed. He offered us a deal that night.\" Decades after their initial release, it's impossible to deny or underestimate the musical evolution of the 90's without including Unsane. Combining abrasive noise-rock with corrosive and powerful distorted vocals, furious pulsations of bass and drums, Unsane had broken down the doors of noise-rock for the 90's.
